The Process

Every 10 years, Stamford’s City Charter must be reviewed. 2022 marks the 19th time that Stamford will review its Charter. This process includes:

  1. A special Charter Revision Commission is initiated, made up of members of the Board of Representatives (see below for members) - done

  2. A Charter Revision Commission is made up of members of the Stamford community (see below) that is tasked with reviewing specific parts of the Charter and making any suggested revisions to the Charter on or before June 07, 2023 - in-process

  3. The Charter Revision Committee (and then the full Board of Representatives) will consider the suggested revisions from the Commission.

  4. The Committee submits a final report to the full Board of Representatives with suggested revisions, for a full Board vote.

  5. Board-approved revisions will be placed on an upcoming general election ballot (likely November 2024 for all Stamford voters to decide if any/all amendments will be added to the City Charter.
